With the Winter Carnival continuing in St. Paul this weekend, there are lots of reasons to spend time outdoors. Be prepared for cold-weather activities by stocking up at these shops carrying gear that’s both warm and stylish.
Duluth Trading Co. (9801 Lyndale Ave. S., Bloomington; 952-884-3561; and 252 57th Ave. N.E., Fridley; 612-255-5201; duluthtrading.com): Midwest shop popular for its catalogs is making its way into the Twin Cities market, giving fans more access to not only the brand’s heavy-duty workwear but also outdoor gear. We’re fans of the women’s Black Hills winterized quick-dry pants ($80) with fleece lining and plenty of pockets.
Finnsisu (2436 Larpenteur Ave., Lauderdale; 651-645-2443; finnsisu.com): Head straight to the hat section and nab a Sherpa beanie — with an adorable snowflake design or otherwise. The hats come with the brand’s signature sweatband lining to keep your ears toasty.
45 Degrees (229 Main St. S., Stillwater; 651-430-3609; 45-degrees.com): This outfitter knows how to keep you warm from head to toe with the crème de la crème of outdoor gear. Check out pieces like Patagonia down vests and jackets, Ugg Australia furry boots and Darn Tough Vermont wool socks.
L.L.Bean (Mall of America; 952-854-1017; llbean.com): If you can get your hands on the high-demand boots, the investment is well worth it. Footwear is always durable, comfortable — and on trend.
REI (several locations, including 1955 County Road B2 W., Roseville; 651-635-0211; and 750 W. American Blvd., Bloomington; 952-884-4315; rei.com): Patagonia, North Face, Marmot, Arc’teryx, Columbia — the list goes on and on. REI gets our vote for carrying the widest selection of high-quality and spiffy outdoor brands.
