The hub of St. Paul’s 2019 Winter Carnival will move this year from Rice Park to Kellogg Mall Park, overlooking the Mississippi River.

The St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation said Wednesday that many signature events and attractions would move from Rice Park because of renovations underway there.

“Not only is St. Paul fortunate to be home to the Winter Carnival, we are also lucky to have so many great parks that can accommodate the events, ice carvings and other attractions,” said City Council Member Rebecca Noecker, who represents downtown. “It will give us a different way to experience Carnival and I am looking forward to seeing the amazing ice carvings next to our downtown riverfront.

Festivities such as the Ice Carving Competition, the Winter Carnival Music Series, the Ice Bar and other attractions will take places at Kellogg Mall Park, between Robert and Wabasha streets.

The park is historically significant as the location of the chapel that gave the city its name and is considered the birthplace of St. Paul.

The carnival runs Jan. 24 to Feb. 3.
