A sure sign the St. Paul Winter Carnival is on its wintry way: the carnival button designs for 2019 will be unveiled on Saturday, followed by the grand opening of Stacked Deck Brewing, at 421 Cedar St. (the Treasure Island Center in the former Macy’s building) in downtown St. Paul.
Winter Carnival Royals, Vulcans, Klondike Kates and folks from the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation will attend the unveiling, along with the 2019 button designer, John Kocon.
While the festivities from 1 to 3 p.m. are private, Stacked Desk opens officially at 4 p.m.
The button card includes a registration form to enter the Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt with the opportunity to win up to $10,000. Other prizes include $1,000 cash, a Vulcan fire truck ride for 20, Minnesota Wild tickets, a one-year membership to the St. Paul Athletic Club and a chance to feed the giraffes at Como Zoo.
The sale of the collectible buttons is the largest fundraiser for the St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation, which manages and produces the Winter Carnival. Buttons will cost $5 for one and $19 for all four.
The 133rd St. Paul Winter Carnival will take place Jan. 24-Feb. 3. For more information, go to wintercarnival.com.
