It’s January, the time of year when St. Paul thoughts turn to the Winter Carnival.

Carnival is Jan. 24 through Feb. 3, but the St. Paul Art Collective is already inspiring thoughts of the beauty of winter and the promise of spring at its annual Fire & Ice Winter Carnival Art Show.

Fire & Ice opened last week at AZ Gallery in Lowertown St. Paul and features more than 100 works from Minnesota-based artists — paintings, mobiles, photography, collage, jewelry and sculpture.

There will be an artists reception from 5 to 9 p.m. Jan. 25 with free refreshments and a chance to meet the artists, including John Kocon, the designer of this year’s Winter Carnival buttons.

The show runs through Feb. 18.

AZ Gallery is at 308 Prince St. Hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
