The 2014 Winter Carnival Klondike Kate will be chosen Wednesday night at the Prom Center in Oakdale. Six contestants will take to the stage to belt out a tune and seek the title of the Carnival character based on a Gold Rush dance hall performer. The Kate hopefuls will be judged on musical ability, song choice, costuming and crowd appeal. Past Kates will be there to perform, as well. It starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $20 at the door, $17 with a Winter Carnival Button. For more info, go to klondikekates.org.
And you can prepare for the 128th St. Paul Winter Carnival, which starts Jan. 23, at the annual memorabilia swap on Saturday.
You can buy, sell or trade buttons and pins from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the South St. Paul VFW, 111 Concord Exchange S. Or just look at all the trinkets and treasures.
