Sure, we’re all trying to think warm-weather thoughts, but that’s no reason to forget about next year’s St. Paul Winter Carnival. Carnival volunteers are hosting “Spirits of Carnival,” a food-, wine- and beer-tasting event that will raise money for the 2010 Winter Carnival.

Restaurants providing the tastes include Bennett’s Chop and Railhouse, the Blue Door Pub, Kane’s Catering, North St. Paul Tap & Grill, O’Gara’s Bar & Grill and the Pool and Yacht Club. Wine and beer tastes will come from Cork N Barrel of Oakdale, and if you like something, you can place orders for wine at a discount.

Spirits of Carnival is from 6 to 11 p.m. April 17 at the Great Hall, 180 E. Fifth St., St. Paul. Tickets are $35 at the door, $25 in advance. Check wintercarnival.com for details.

The 124th Winter Carnival is set for Jan. 21-31, 2010.
