The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is part of the St. Paul Winter Carnival every year. While the prize can only go to one winner, The Allison Wonderland is dedicated to the community spirit of treasure hunting. Here, not only will you find out about the Pre-Dig Gig, the Rehash Bash, and various other social events, but we also discuss the clues here in a team effort to decipher them (albeit not always successfully). This is a place to discuss ideas respectfully, report on what's happening "on the ground", and provide each other with useful information. Awesome job, Aaron! Congratulations ! I never once thought it was there. :)

Does anyone know how many times Josh has found it? Does anyone think there should be a limit? I don't. If you're that good, you're that good!! He's the goat.

2025 Park Pool Winner

Sat, 01/25/2025 - 13:27
I was surprised that I didn't have more guess for Central. Tom was the first to mention it, giving it 2 votes on clue 2, but then he got off of it again. So our winner was Aaron Smith who gave it 5 votes on Clue 3 and then never changed it. That got him a total of 75 points (25 + 20 + 15 + 10 + 5) which beat out everyone else's total. No one else mentioned it until Clue 5! So Aaron, you have won the $100 and I will be in touch. Congratulations!

Re: 2025 Golden Beer Can Hunt Getting Towards the End

Here are all 8 clues that are out now:   Clue #1
If you should want a beer that’s cold, then seek out ours, it’s good as gold.
The true standard in days of old, alcohol was just down the street.
In St. Paul we will play our game, where a park and street share a name.
A split tree will direct your aim, somewhere away from the concrete.   Clue #2
In this park some grass goes unshaved, nor are each of the trees behaved,
And not all the edges are paved. Still, you’ll find a fine place to sit.
The direction it’s best begun? In the shade of the morning sun.
For that is where this hunt is won, once you get it into your mitt.   Clue #3
Look up for a chance at success. Step down and you might find distress.
To go high or low? It’s your guess. Perhaps either way you’ll be okay.
But as you wander to and fro, going maybe high, maybe low,
You might just think to yourself, “Oh! I have already been this way!”   Clue #4
This year’s park indeed has a name, though it was not always the same.
It’s not clear who did first proclaim, but it is a park we all know.
If your car needs a parking spot you will find that there is a lot
Six they used to say for this plot that was partly barns long ago.   Clue #5
It’s one hundred eighty degrees on the inside among some trees.
Outside our treasure is sure to freeze because it is close to zero.
Nix the unfriendly attitude, and soon you will feel gratitude
Giving you some good latitude to become a hunting hero.   Clue #6
Old McDonald, he had no farm, but a fool thinks he had no charm.
It’s alright, this is it, no harm if you were to keep forgetting.
It was the best that you can do, playing together with your crew,
It even keeps you running too, towards the treasure we’re betting.   Clue #7
Though he had wanted to help all, it really took a lot of gall.
Later on, no one would play ball. He was disappointed for sure.
Between just you and me a stroll proves helpful to body and soul.
For if you’re not feeling quite whole, it might help to seek out the cure.   Clue #8
Two men who held office most high are to be found not all that nigh,
Yet they matter, and this is why – between them you’ll rake in your pay.
Water is something to avoid, though a bit of ice was employed.
Don’t slip or you will be annoyed before heading out old Tom’s way.

Re: 2025 Pioneer Press Medallion Hunt Clue #7

Oh, I think I have it now. You have the Prince of Peace Church and the Lion's Club Shelter right next to each other. The lion is considered the "king of the jungle" (even though they don't live in the jungle, but residency issues are for the courts to decide). So you have a king and a prince, hence the reference to nobles. The shelter keeps the elements at bay and the last two lines refer to the church.

There is a prince peace Lutheran church nearby central. They have a very detailed web site, not sure if any connections to clues from that.
Also, possible bob dylan reference from clue 1. I was listening last night to his song 'shelter from the storm' there's the 2 shelters at central park. Lions shelter and foundatikns shelter.

But wait! What light through yonder window breaks?   The first line is quite famous, "To be or not to be", followed by "That is the question". But they have rephrased it as "See the quandary raised". So what if they really mean to say is B2 (to be) and C (See) and that is why they rephrased the second line? That would go back to Central. Avon and Victoria also go through Central. But then I'm not sure what clue 6 is about other than a church or two not too far away.
