This year’s Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt set a record for ending after only three clues. But it only ties the record for the fewest number of days.

Victors have twice before found the medallion on the third day – but after five riddles. In those years, the newspaper was published twice a day, and each edition printed a new clue.

Here are the fastest finds since the contest began in 1952:

2007: Jake Ingebrigston; third day; three clues; Hidden Falls Park.

1980: Neil and Diane Schnagl; third day; five clues; Como Park.

1975: Andrea and William Buron; third day; five clues; Mears Park.

1960: Roger Tollefson; fourth day; six clues; Harriet Island.

2006: Ian Luby, Kai Peterson and Joe Barnard; sixth day; six clues; Battle Creek Regional Park.

2002: Mary Kay, Tom and Sean Hamilton; sixth day; six clues; Merriam Park.
