Winter lovers might be interested in taking a peek at eight prospective button themes, ranging from nimble ice skaters to grinning snowmen, vying for a place on next year’s St. Paul Winter Carnival button. We’ve posted all 32 designs (four for each entry). They’re the handiwork of students from the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul.

Judges will consider community input before announcing the winning button design on Dec. 1.
Buttons will be on sale beginning Dec. 1 at Cub Foods, Snyders, SuperAmerica and other retailers. Prices are $5 for one or $18 for a four-pack.
