ST. PAUL—The St. Paul Winter Carnival may have to downsize two of its big events.
Carnival organizers have less than a third of the money they need for the ice-carving and snow-sculpting competitions in Rice Park.
Last month, the organization that puts on the carnival began selling the 300-pound blocks of ice used for the carvings.
The blocks cost $122 each — in honor of the carnival’s 122nd year. The St. Paul Festival and Heritage Foundation is hoping to sell 1,000 blocks as part of the “Stock in a Block” program.
So far, it’s sold almost 300.
The St. Paul Winter Carnival runs from January 23rd to February Third.
