The 122nd St. Paul Winter Carnival announced the winners of its snow-sculpting and ice-carving contests Sunday.
Thousands of people viewed the creations over the weekend. The snow-sculpting contest was at the State Fairgrounds and the ice-carving competition was held at Rice Park.
Carnival officials said they hope to have photos of the winners posted soon on the Web site winter-carnival-photography.com.
SNOW-SCULPTING CONTEST
1st Place: “Rocket Man” (robot with power pack). The $1,200 cash prize goes to Jon Baller, Stillwater; Curt Cook, Cottage Grove; and Joseph Hauwiller, Jr., Eden Prairie.
2nd Place: “I’m Telling Mom” (tree house). The $600 prize goes to Jim Baller, Bob Baller and Judy Grufman.
3rd Place: “Dream Hunt” (teepee, buffalo and person). The $300 prize goes to Jim Trost, Jared Trost and Jim Krueger.
People’s Choice: “Winter Caps.” The trophy goes to Steve Robinson, Matt Bliss and Claire McDonough.
Artist’s Choice: “Dream Hunt.”
Vulcan’s Choice: “Vulcanopus” (big octopus with a Vulcan face). It was sculpted by Dan Ratte, Jenni Ratte and Peter Jaworski.
ICE-CARVING COMPETITION
Multi-Block Ice Carving
1st Place: “The Pearl” (shipwreck). The $3,000 prize goes to Chris Swarbrick and Greg Schmotzer.
2nd Place: “King Boreas’ Three Ring Circus.” The $1,500 goes to Jim Nadeau, Jim Quaft, Robert Anderson and Tom Schiller.
3rd Place: “Where’s Frank?” A prize of $750 goes to Chad Peterson, Jerry Sarff and Eric Rotter.
People’s Choice Award: “Where’s Frank?” Includes a $250 prize.
Carver’s Choice: “Crystal Elegance” (skaters). The $250 prize goes to Jarrett Dahl, Jordan Dahl and Ross Inselman.
Individual Block Competition Professional Division
1st Place: “Waiting for Lunch.” The $750 prize goes to Greg Schmotzer.
2nd Place: “Vision.” The $500 prize goes to Jarrett Dahl, Jordan Dahl and Ross Inselman.
3rd Place: “Cutting Edge.” The $250 prize goes to Chris Swarbrick.
Artisan Division
1st Place: “Ice Bites.” The $75 prize goes to Chad Peterson.
2nd Place: “Ice Skate.” The $50 prize goes to Joseph and Peter Christianson.
3rd Place: “Here No, Speak No, See No.” The $25 prize goes to Eric Rotter.
