Treasure hunters, it’s not too early to get your shovels ready.

The 2009 Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt, presented by Cub Foods, will begin with publication of the first clue Jan. 18.

“The Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt is our longest-running and best-known community promotion,” Pioneer Press marketing director Lori Swanson said. “Every year at this time, we get requests for the Treasure Hunt dates from avid hunters who want to plan ahead to be part of the excitement.”

The hunt, a St. Paul Winter Carnival tradition since 1952, challenges Pioneer Press readers to solve daily clues and be the first to find a medallion hidden on public land in Ramsey County.

The 2009 winner could receive up to $10,000, plus $1,200 in groceries from Cub Foods.

A new Pioneer Press Treasure Hunt clue will be published daily from Jan. 18 through Jan. 29, or until the medallion is found. Newspapers with the next day’s clue will be available beginning about 11:30 each night in the lobby of the Pioneer Press building, at 345 Cedar St. in downtown St. Paul.

TwinCities.com will host the official Treasure Hunt Web site. Next-day clues will be posted online by midnight each day of the hunt.
