Vulcanus Rex and the 2011 Vulcan Krewe will present a $2,000 check to the Minnesota Fire Service Foundation for a new fallen firefighter memorial this afternoon.
St. Paul Fire Chief Tim Butler will accept the donation at Fire Station No. 1, 1000 W. Seventh St., at 4:30 p.m. on behalf of the foundation.
The donation comes from Vulcan Community Charities, the charitable giving arm of the St. Paul Winter Carnival Krewe. It’ll go toward the $600,000 needed to help pay for the memorial, which will be located at the state Capitol. The foundation wants to hit that goal by Dec. 31.
The Winter Carnival runs Jan. 26 through Feb. 5.
