The St. Paul Winter Carnival Sled Dog Races, absent from the annual festival since the early 1990s, then rescheduled and cancelled in 2012 and slated for a Jan. 26 return, have been postponed.
Race organizers said Monday, Jan. 21, that the event on Bald Eagle Lake has been pushed back to the weekend of Feb. 2 and 3 in hopes the region gets more snow. The snow cover is currently insufficient to hold the races, said Sally O’Sullivan Bair of the North Star Sled Dog Club.
The National Weather Service forecasts the next possible snowfall for Thursday.
A final decision on the fate of the 2013 race will be made Jan. 27. For more information, go to nssdc.org or wintercarnivalsleddograce.com.
