As legend dictates, the Vulcans will do their best to send King Boreas and his frosty family packing on Saturday night so that warm weather can begin to make its return as the 134th St. Paul Winter Carnival wraps up.

The overthrow of Boreas comes at the end of the Torchlight Parade, which begins at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and travels from the St. Paul Farmers Market in Lowertown to Rice Park. A night parade in the winter? Why not. Look for plenty of flaming torches, floats, clowns, royalty and people tossed into the air on blankets.

During the day on Saturday, there’s a boot hockey tournament and bean bag tournament at CHS Field, family day at Landmark Center and the “Team USA Journey: Presented by Oreo” traveling vehicle exhibit will be parked on Landmark Plaza with all sorts of Olympic inspiration (and free Oreos). It’s also Doggie Depot day at Union Depot and there’s golf on ice in White Bear Lake.

On Sunday inside Landmark Center, a Winter Carnival Global Market will have booths of food, crafts and products. Team USA Journey exhibit vehicle is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Bingo & Bloody Marys takes place in the Baileys Warming House on Landmark Plaza from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
