The designs for the 2021 St. Paul Winter Carnival buttons were unveiled virtually Saturday morning.

Four Winter Carnival legend characters — King Boreas Darrin Johnson, Vulcanus Rex Todd Miller, Queen of the Snows Kristin Knutson, and Klondike Kate Shelley Pabst — took turns revealing each of the four 135th anniversary buttons via Facebook Live. Carnival organizers shared plans for the Winter Carnival, which include a drive-through to view snow sculptures and ice carvings at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds.

Twin Cities artist Adam Turman was recruited to design the buttons. Turman is a muralist, artist and printmaker. His work includes designing the commemorative art for the Minnesota State Fair in 2015, creating a powerful mural on the plywood covering the Uptown Theatre in Minneapolis following the death of George Floyd this summer and decorating one of the 7-foot rose statues on display this summer in Roseville.

The 2021 Winter Carnival buttons are $5 for one and $19 for the collector’s pack of all four. Each button is attached to a card that has a schedule of Winter Carnival main attractions and a chance to register for prizes. The buttons are on sale at some Cub Foods stores, other select retailers and on the Winter Carnival website, wintercarnival.com.

The 135th St. Paul Winter Carnival will take place Jan. 28-Feb. 7.
