I think I forgot to mention this but it's kind of important. The Allison Wonderland Mock Hunt Part Deux is actually going to start with Clue 1 this Sunday, April 1st. (No, really!) We won't be having a kickoff that day since it is Easter, but I will be putting out Clue 1 at 5:00pm

Then there will be a kickoff party for those who are interested on Wednesday, April 4th, again at Joseph's Grill. That means you have until the release of the 4th clue OR at the kickoff to register for the new hunt if you did not register the first time around.

That means this hunt will run from April 1st, to April 12th. The reason for the change is because the next hunt, run by Ed Brodie, was already scheduled to start on April 12th and we wanted to minimize the overlap. You can also register for Ed's hunt at the kickoff on the 4th.

Again, if you registered for the original hunt, you are still registered for this one. If you did not register for the original hunt, you can still get in on this one by attending the kickoff event, sending me the money via Paypal at AllisonWondrland@yahoo.com, or making other arrangements. In the meantime, the prize for this hunt will go up to at least $500 depending on how many new registrations there are.

Stark remains the land, as though Spring were banned.
Green has turned white in this follow up hunt.
Steer far from the path, in the aftermath
Truth is, I mucked the thing up, to be blunt.
Explanation:
In “Game of Thrones” the Starks are the family of the North. Green is the color people usually associate with a park and Steer is something you do when you drive. Collectively they suggest North Park Drive which runs along the north side of the hiding area. Meanwhile the word “Truth” has “Ruth” in it which is the nearest cross street. “Follow-up hunt” also hints back to 2003 when the AW Mock Hunt that followed Phalen was also in this same part of Battle Creek. The clue also tells you the treasure is hidden off the path covered in a bit of muck (leaves from the ground).

Or go in daylight to avoid a fright,
Lest a wayward deer give you a frisson.
Explanation:
This clue tells you it is in a nature type area without lights where you might encounter a deer (I have anyway). Having to listen tells you that it is at a point in the park where you can hear the creek.

When it comes to plot, there is not a lot.
You can see all the twists coming with ease.
Winding here and there, until, and I swear.
It might make you think, “Get to the point please!’
Explanation:
The first line tells you that the area of the park where the treasure lies is not that big and also that there is no parking lot there. The twists refer to both the creek and the path, both of which eventually end up at Point Douglas Rd.

His mansion, when mapped, whose street name is apt,

Explanation:
When I say “His mansion” I of course mean James J. Hill, as evidenced by “HILL” being spelled out in the first letter of each line and the reference to “track”. Also, the HILL house is on SUMMIT Ave. So from that starting point, first off, the treasure, in Battle Creek, is nowhere near there. Secondly, if you draw a lateral line through the Hill House, the treasure will be on a lateral line south of that which eliminates half the city. Also, “attack” is a combat word to hint Battle Creek

Explanation:
This is the history clue as suggested by “an old man’s prattle”. The detailed story of the battle which gave Battle Creek its name starts with the Chippewa attacking two women working in a field near what was called Pine Coulie back then. One of the women was married to “Old Rattler”. After the war party killed the women, they found the son of one of them and killed the child too.

These Irish aren’t nice, nor were Saints on ice.
But the Sullivans went down as heroes.
Use this as your guide, align with one side,
And earn a check with a couple zeroes.
Explanation:
The Irish of Notre Dame are the “Fighting Irish”, The old Saint Paul Saints hockey team were known as “The Fighting Saints”. And the five Sullivan brothers who died when their ship sank were the subject of a movie called “The Fighting Sullivans”. All this fighting was meant of course to suggest Battle Creek. The “side” you were supposed to align to was not part of a fight but rather Valleyside Dr. The treasure was pretty much in a line extended from that street. Finding the treasure would get you a $500 check.

Let us not make a casualty of you.
But the point you want will require a jaunt
To land that’s between levels one and two.
Explanation:
Up and down is a reference to Upper and Lower Afton. “Be sure not to drown” tells you that there is water nearby and could perhaps also be taken to favor Upper Afton. “Casualty” is yet another Battle term in case you were still wavering on Battle Creek. There is a Point Douglas in the park, but the point where the treasure is requires a fair walk from there to a part of the park that in strict up-down terms (north-south) lies between Battle Creek Elementary (Level one) and Battle Creek Middle School (Level two).

Things are looking up when you’re nearly done.
The thing you must see is what I would be
When comparing to a negative one
Explanation:
As you enter the park from Ruth St. you will find yourself descending down the path. But as you get near the treasure, you will have to look up to see where it is at. The last two lines are a math joke. “i” in math stands for an imaginary number where i squared = -1. So “what i would be when comparing to a negative one” is the square root. The treasure is hidden in the roots of a tree that are squarish looking from down below.

There’s something to fear when a bear is near.
It is really not a laughing matter.
But where a fox goes, if someone follows
You all might focus instead of scatter.
Explanation:
The Bear is White Bear Ave. which is not near the treasure. The fox is Foxridge Rd just to the north. The treasure lies within the span of that road. “Not funny” also tells you it is in the part of that area that is not bordered by Larry Ho Dr.as in “Ho Ho Ho!”

Is it East or West? Which one is the best?
Maybe give me some leeway on this one.
It’s hard to decide where’s best to divide
Lest you thrice end up in a depression.
Explanation:
This clue refers to East and West Sandra Lee Drives (leeway). If extending a line from each, the treasure would be between them. It also hints to Battle Creek itself which is divided between east and west. The three depressions of the last line are the valley that is the part of the park the treasure lies in, Valleyside Dr. which aligns to the treasure, and the small gulch running down the hill that leads right to the tree with the treasure in its roots.

When you come to it you’ll think this is it.
The time has come to make a decision.
You should turn instead and lift up your head
It will rock your world and add precision
Explanation:
The first part of the clue is a play on the phrase “We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”, thereby hinting at the nearby bridge. But instead of crossing the bridge, you should turn around and look up. If you actually head up the hill, you will pass a big rock on your way to the treasure.

Explanation:
Go to Battle Creek. Park on Ruth St. and head west until you get to the bridge. Head up the hill there, over a branch to a tree with unusual roots.
