The annual Harvest Medallion Hunt is underway. 

The medallion hunt is a prelude to the annual Belle Plaine Scenic Byway 5K and Half-Marathon races Saturday, Oct. 14.

The search area includes all of the Belle Plaine city limits northward up to the railroad tracks. The medallion will be south of the tracks.

The medallion is located on public property and is not more than 6 feet off the ground. It is not on the Hooper-Bowler-Hillstrom Historical House property or inside the Tiger Park baseball field. Those searching on foot are encouraged to use the tunnel to cross Highway 169.

The medallion is about 2 inches in diameter and has “Belle Plaine Harvest Hunt 2017” inscribed on it. The prize for finding it is $100.

Luke Schultz, with help from his grandmother, Sue, found last year’s Harvest Hunt medallion under a bale of straw on the north side of the new Belle Plaine overpass near West Commerce Drive.

Bienvenue to Beau Prairie some say, “a utopia.”
Numbers do not mean much unless you have triskaidekaphobia.
Put on those running shoes and begin to train.
You are in Minnesota, hope it doesn’t rain.
Run a half-marathon out in the hot sun.
Trinity Hill look out, you are no fun.

I’m a little medallion. I am hiding from you.
Anyone can find me, just read the clue.
A 2-story outhouse is at the finish. That’s pretty rare.
Better look hard, unless you don’t care.

We have rules, don’t ya’ know.
Six feet high is as far as I go.
Someone is always taking your photo.
Here is your DVD. Do you have the mojo?
The Schultzes will be in the hunt.
Be aware! Those guys may not bunt.
Some say, “They will take a swing.”
Some say, “It’s a BP thing.”
Explanation:
There are multiple references to running and a race, referring to the half marathon held Saturday (Oct. 14). The third clue contains a reference to Richard (Steinhoff), the announcer who lauds the runners as they cross the finish line after 13.1 hilly miles.
Bill Kruschke, the author of the Harvest Medallion Hunt clues, said Monday the clues led the hunters right to Court Square Park from the initial offering. The first clues refer to the general location in Belle Plaine and race words, he said.
Other key words in the first clue include “train” since the park is north of train tracks, “Trinity Hill” which runners will pass on their way to the finish line, “Schultz’s” as reference to Schultzes Construction Van near the finish, and “Big Macs” meaning no trucks being allowed to park around Court Square.

BPHS has taught me so much to become mature.

Runners know it’s all about the pace.

That is pretty tacky I must say.

I see lots of crosses and noughts.
This will really change your thoughts.
