Harvest Hunt Medallion Follow-up
Hid in one spot, found in another.
Sunday morning, October 1st, started like any Sunday morning, I was up drinking my coffee and about 9:30 AM my phone rings. I answered and it was Steven Beckman. There was a bewildered tone in his voice. He said, Don I have your medallion, but I don’t think I found it where it was hidden.
Bewildered myself, I got in my truck and headed to Fountain park. When I got there Steven showed me a bent and scratched up medallion.
That morning, Steven and his children, Cal and Lainey headed to Fountain park to search for the medallion. Steven scoured the park with no luck. Then Steven, Cal and Lainey decided to go search the shelter in the park. When they got there they searched a bit and all of a sudden Cal yells out to daddy, What’s this?? On top of one of the picnic tables laid the medallion.
When I showed up at the park, I informed Steven that I didn’t hide it there. I informed him that I actually hid it near the top of a small evergreen tree a short distance away. Crazy!!
After a short conversation we concluded someone found the medallion and didn’t know what they had and threw it on the picnic table before they left. The Beckman’s were in the park looking the previous Friday with no luck. Steven said even though Jeremy Heitkamp wasn’t with them when they found the medallion, his help was instrumental in them finding the medallion. We’re a team is how Steven put it.
There’s a giant frog in the playground area of the park that was the focal point of the clues. Goliath, Dart, Green, Dwarf, Glass and Poison are all types of frogs, which is the reason the Beckman's went to the park to look. I asked Steven how he knew the frog was there and he said in a previous medallion hunt they noticed it there. The rest of the clue was mostly running and racing terms.
Congratulations to the Beckman's and Jeremy Heitkamp for their effort. $100 is the prize.
I know for most of you medallion hunters it’s kind of a disappointment when things like this happen that puts an end to the hunt so fast and abruptly. But look at the bright side, there’s another one starting in late February.
Thanks to all who participated.
