The Medallion Hunt is back!  Due to popular demand, the Medallion Hunt is again returning to the Farmington Dew Days© event lineup. A big thanks to the wonderful Medallion Hunt sponsors for making this event possible!

            Anchor Bank

            Dakota Electric Association

            Janie’s Home Team Realty

The Market on Oak, Gift Shoppe

This year it’s a hunt for a hidden treasure chest! Can you find the Farmington Treasure?

The hunt will run from Tuesday, June 11 through Saturday June 15.

The Treasure is hidden on public land within Farmington. It will not be hidden on school district property.

A new clue will be posted at 12:00 noon each day from Tuesday to Saturday. All five clues will be posted in three places:

  1. Online at this site
  2. The entrance to City Hall, 430 Third Street
  3. The Market on Oak, gift shop at 331 Third Street

Please be respectful towards public property. Pack out any garbage you bring into our beautiful parks. To find the Treasure, you will not need to dig, climb, or go near water.

·       The prize for finding the Treasure is $300. This amount is only awarded to a finder with a Dew Days button. A finder without a button will receive $150.

If the medallion is not found before Sunday morning June 16, the clue writer will make a decision to write one more clue (and posted the same way) or end the hunt

I wouldn't call him a fair-weather fan,
Rather, a fan of weather and the fair.
This Yale educated man
Became a farmer and surveyor.

Around 1860, Daniel built his home
With stones he found nearby.
From his house, go down his road,
Head south, the time is nigh!
Explanation:
This clue is an ode to Daniel F. Akin, an early resident of the Farmington area. Akin studied at Yale before settling in Farmington, where he farmed and observed weather for the U.S. Weather Bureau. His Farmington home (located on Akin Road) is on the National Register of Historic Places.

In history class, the Roman rulers you knew.
In math, you learned to add 5.
You'll need a bit of English too.
Street smarts will help your drive.

Ever moving or ill?
It's all mixed up it seems.
Some climb mountains for a thrill,
But I think I'll dream smaller dreams.
Explanation:
The first half of this clue hints at the four streets that provide an entrance to the park where the treasure is located. “Roman rulers” for Emperor Court, “add 5” for 198th and 203rd Streets, and a bit of English Avenue. “Ever moving or ill?” is Vermillion Grove when unscrambled. There is a rock-climbing boulder in the playground near the treasure chest.

Ride your bike or go for a jog.
Look for the treasure chest all around.
With a family of foxes and one lonely frog,
Seek shelter then head for high ground.

Feeling left in the dark?
Need the name of the park?
It's time to revisit the fourth clue.
Read line 5, then 6, then 5 again.
You've got some unscrambling to do!
Explanation:
The final clue hints at two features in the playground near the treasure. A sign displays that The Fox Family has volunteered to “adopt” Vermillion Grove Park through Farmington’s Adopt-A-Park program. Behind this sign, there is one frog spring rider in the playground. If you stand near these features, walk to the park shelter, and walk up the nearby hill, you are very close to the treasure. There is also another reminder to unscramble line 5 from clue 4.
