Yo ho, and here we go
Medallion time again
To be schooled, know the rules
Of what, and where, and when
We start today to find the way
Within the town, on public ground
A little stone that’s kind of round
Just waiting to be found

Who came up with this contest?
Don’t they know we have snow?
The medallion could be hidden 2 feet below
Or encased in ice and frozen down
Under the grass and stuck to the ground
Hopefully mercy has prevailed in the hiders
Perhaps softened a bit with a warm mug of hard cider
But whatever the case, mean, nice or between
There will be a lone marker on which to lean

If you followed the border all the way round
Seven hundred plus acres you would surround
Your trip would measure nearly six miles
Around a town of Owl Fest smiles
But as one might expect on this long trek
You could become a physical wreck
Though your feet would complain all of the day
At some point you’re just three hundred away

Now here are questions to take full measure
To find the special owl fest treasure
Is it north, is it south or somewhere in-between
Is it east, is it west or just off a degree
It’s taxing I know to find a good map
If you taped it off, you’d need a long nap
But take heart my friends, there’s help on the way
The County’s first taxes are due in May

The town’s got water, that is clear
Sometimes too far, sometimes too near
In the river, in the slough,
In the ground not far from you
Water here, water there,
Water, water everywhere
Water to be drained away
Or water you might need some day

Houston runs on volunteers
Hoedowns & playgrounds through the years
From snowmobiles to libraries many folks helped
Owl fest and ziplines or fires to be squelched
Or senior meals or meals brought on wheels
Delivered by good folks buoyed up by their zeal
Baseball’s a big one that took lots of verve
Churches and Food Shelf, elections for sure
Community gardens and scouts I concur
Keep this town lively and help it endure

When the clues are confusing and you’re feeling dense
Just follow your nose and the clues will soon make sense
The sweet smell of spring is not far away
Daffodils, lilacs, and roses I’d say
Can’t hold a candle to what’s on your way
And so, to the victor go the spoils
But in this case the spoils might not be so royal

3:30pm clue

Politics now hound us each waking hour
Whether trying to sleep or taking a shower
But perhaps it’s a metaphor for this year’s hunt
Though the persistence of ads makes us want to punt
There’s much to consider on which way to go
Some folks are anxious and some folks not so
Undoubtedly, we have many choices to ponder
Whether Red, Blue or White or somewhere out yonder
Democrats are blue with all the options they’ve said
But this county’s at peace. It’s decidedly red.

6:30am clue

The Greeks had the Hydra with 9 heads or so
Popping up two when one’s chopped with a blow
So, Heracles pondered as one of his labors
How to master this beast that pestered the neighbors
His nephew so handy with fire that day
Helped cauterize the stumps as Herc lopped away
It worked but Herc worried with great concern
What if she was his Aunt, as Greeks oft too late learn

3:30 pm Friday Clue

Some say the world has gone to the dogs
But dogs, as do hogs, can sleep just like logs
Unlike us humans who worry away
About virus or stock markets shrinking each day
Though one dog has Covid-19, so they say
It strikes me that dogs are in a far better way
They’re seldom on cruise ships stuck in the bay
Or wearing masks in Wuhan today
Whether Labrador, Komondor, Poodle or Pug
Our dogs have options, trees or fireplugs
