Twas the night before August
And all ‘round the town
Folks were all wonderin’
When temps would go down

Cluemeister too was
a wiltin’ at home
Jus’ thinkin’ of nuthin’
But writin’ this pome

Hatin’ the thought of
You havin’ to wander
Out in the wilderness
Way over yonder

But hey she forgot that
The first thing that’s needed
Is tellin’ you readers
The rules to be heeded

A-Watch yer step so’s yore
On public proppity
‘Cuz otherwise someone
Could get kinda uppity

B-Don’ go diggin’ or
Climbin’ up stepstools
An’ divin’s for duckies
Or fishies in their schools

C-Heed these warnin’s
Inside city edges
There ain’t no need to
Peep over them hedges

-Cluemeister, with apologies to my more larned fren’s

Pitter patter in the hall,
Little feet rush to gold’s call.
Entertain me, feed me clues
And don’t tell me to go snooze.

Send clues out by print, online--
Easy reading, given time.
Isn’t this a rummy show?
Going forward, going slow.

Never mind the road’s not paved.
Onward, downward, no time saved.
Ready now and steady goes it.
Enter ranch by gemstone facet.

See you look while crossing tracks.
Take your time and watch your backs,
Until safely off train line.
Pretend “no bugs” and you’ll be fine.

Ignore the wind, the rain, the flies.
Dangle feet and catch the prize.

Now’s no time to dilly-dally!
May be gold in them thar hills,
But ours is in this very valley.
Big and round like one small pancake,

Heavy, which a gold coin should be,
Made for us upon a handshake.
Bill McClintick and Dave Schneider
Formed and etched and rolled it out,

Wrapped it up as soft as eider.
Thanks to them for doing this!
Now the loot is put in hiding,
Whoso finds it cannot miss.

Glinting slyly through a fence,
Peeping shyly from its wrapping,
Beckons it to you! Go hence!
Autumn’s leaves will show the way.

Rustling, crackling, snapping vines,
Seldom seen ‘til end of day.
