Search for the Frozen Fun Fest Medallion hidden in a Mendota Heights public park.

Daily clues will be posted at 8 a.m. starting February 3, 2022 on Mendota Heights Parks and Recreation’s Facebook page and the City’s website at mendotaheightsmn.gov. Participants must follow all rules below when searching for the medallion. The winner of the 2022 Mendota Heights Frozen Fun Fest Medallion Hunt will receive a Mendota Heights hearty congratulations, celebratory high-fives, plus $200 in restaurant gift cards to restore all that energy you spent while searching!

 

2022 MEDALLION HUNT RULES

 

  • The Mendota Heights Frozen Fun Fest Medallion is hidden in one of the following Mendota Heights City-owned public parks:
    • Civic Center Park
    • Copperfield Ponds
    • Friendly Hills Park
    • Hagstrom-King Park
    • Ivy Hills Park
    • Kensington Park
    • Market Square Park
    • Marie Park
    • Mendakota Park
    • Rogers Lake Park
    • Valley Park
    • Valley View Heights Park
    • Victoria Highlands Park
    • Wentworth Park
  • The medallion is not hidden in the following areas; do not search at the following:
    • Mendota Heights Par 3 Community Golf Course
    • Oȟéyawahe/Historic Pilot Knob Preservation
    • The off-leash Dog Park on Acacia Boulevard
    • The Sibley Athletic Complex
    • Any City buildings/building properties including Public Works, the Fire Department, and City Hall/Police Department.
    • Near any body of water or embankment
    • At a height where climbing might be involved, such as in a tree or on top of recreation equipment, light posts, etc.
  • Please preserve the City’s park amenities and natural resources while searching.
    • Stick to maintained park and trail areas.
    • The medallion is not located under any surface that requires picking at or destroying, such as ice rink skating surfaces.
    • The medallion is not located in any park buildings, such as warming houses.
    • While careful snow shoveling is allowed, do not disturb habitat or wildlife.
  • Searchers must not damage public property or otherwise violate laws or ordinances. Do not disassemble items such as irrigation heads, light fixtures, and other equipment; the medallion is not hidden in these items. The use of tobacco or electronic cigarettes is not permitted in City parks; dogs must be kept on leashes of six feet or less per City Code, and pet waste must be picked up.  
  • Searchers must adhere to City park hours: parks are open daily 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • City of Mendota Heights employees or family members of said employees are not eligible to win. Family members are defined as parents, children, or siblings.
  • Discovery of the medallion must be reported immediately by calling 651-302-3301.
  • Searchers assume all risk for personal injury.
  • The winner may be asked to sign a photo release form for publicity or promotional purposes.
  • If the medallion is not found by February 11 at 9 a.m. the hunt will terminate.

 

If the medallion is found, staff will announce the medallion hunt has ended by posting on the City’s website and on the Mendota Heights Parks and Recreation Facebook Page upon verification of the medallion being found.

 

The winner will receive the following prize:
$50 Teresa’s Gift Card, $50 Subway Gift Card, $50 Caribou Gift Card, $50 King and I Thai Gift Card.

Since this is our first hunt, we will take you around the bases,
To find the medallion, you will have to put in your paces.
Our park system is spacious,
Your reward will be gracious,
Stay on public land in the meeting place of rivers and you are aces.
Explanation:
"Taking you around the bases" = It ius a park with a baseball field.
"Paces" = it is off the trail, will need to talk a bit.
"Aces" = is a nod to the fact that this is the first hunt, which is a theme we will repeat.

With it being the inaugural hunt, you will be required to search near and far,
Based on where the medallion is sitting, you will need to get out of your car.
Take a swing on by some of your favorite parks,
And you will most certainly leave a positive mark.
Explanation:
"Inaugural" = City's first park land.
"Sitting" = Medallion is on the ground.
"Out of your car" = Out of vehicle will need to walk a bit from parking lot - near pedestrian crossing.
"Swing" = near a tennis court as in relation to a tennis swing. Also the park it is in has a playground with a swing.

The medallion is hidden on some of our oldest park land
And we owe a big “thank you” to the park planners who crafted the site with their bare hands.
Some enjoy the park while taking a stroll,
While others play a game here where the ball has to roll.
Explanation:
"Oldest park land" = Valley Park.
"Hands" = You do not need to shovel, you can find the medallion with your hands.
"Stroll" = This park is best known in Mendota Heights for walking. With it being near bituminous, you could easily push a stroller.
"Game where the ball has to roll" = Kickball is played at the park by neighbors sometimes.

While biking through our 33 miles of trails,
Do not forget to inhale and exhale.
I’ll be chilling as you ride,
Get out on the bituminous to find me and boost your pride.
Explanation:
"33 miles of trails" = The number of miles the city has for trails, there was a steep slope sign with a bike right next to the medallion.
"Inhale and exhale" = Medallion is right by a tree, trees provide oxygen.
"Ride" = Steep slope sign has a bike on it.
"Bituminous" = The medallion was close to the trail.

As you look for me, be careful as I am near a steep slope,
But don’t worry, I will not float.
Do not feel the need to look high,
As the medallion is looking straight to the sky.
Explanation:
"Steep slope" = Medallion was right by the steep slope sign at Valley.
"Will not float" = Wanted to make sure people did not think the medallion was near a water body.
"Not feel the need to look high" = Medallion is on the ground looking straight up.

I must admit I am hidden at Valley.
With only three days left of the hunt you do not have time to dilly dally,
With over 94 acres of land consisting of the park
It will be difficult to see me when its dark.
Explanation:
"Hidden at Valley" = Medallion hidden within Valley Park.
"94 acres of land" = The acreage of Valley Park.
"Difficult to see me when its dark" = Near the tunnel.

In regards to geographic location, I sit parallel to Marie
You may see me if you’re near one of the park’s beautiful trees.
If you stop while you’re on your walk
There’s a chance you may see me near a rock.
Explanation:
"Parallel to Marie" = The medallion is parallel to Marie Road by crosswalk, as crosswalks have parallel lines.
"Near one of the park's beautiful trees" = The medallion is hidden at the base of a tree.
"May see me near a rock" = There were multiple rocks placed right by the medallion

It will be difficult to see me if it recently snowed.
Don't stress and keep the faith,
Even though this clue is the eighth.
Explanation:
"Fork in the road" = The medallion is right by an area with many different directional options.
"Difficult to see if it snowed" = Medallion is on the ground and will be buried more with additional snowfall.
"Don't stress" Near a walking path that relieves stress.

Be careful as its notifying you of the path's decline

Explanation:
"Lay" = Again the medallion is on the ground.
"Near the steep slope sign" = The medallion is right by the steep slope sign.
"Path's decline" = The medallion is placed adjacent to where the path starts taking a steep decline.
"Birthday candle" = The medallion was attached to a No. 1 (for inaugural medallion hung) candle to hope to have people see it.
