Summer means Summerfest,
And Summerfest means fun!
If you have not yet been to Summerfest,
Then this should be the one!

The medallion hunt is just one part,
There’s so much more to do!
You need to see it for yourself!
Bring your friends and family too!

There’s a parade, rides, and music,
Plus food, food, and more food.
And fireworks on Saturday night,
To brighten everyone’s mood!

Bit by bit, as the clues come out,
The medallion and its location are clear.
There’s a place nearby to stick it away.
Walton? Nope, it’s never there.
Explanation:
“Fun” refers to a game.
“You” is used at least once in each daily clue and refers to the shape of a horseshoe
“Bit” = horse terminology
“Stick” refers to hockey sticks at the nearby Tartan Ice Arena

Food is sure the name of the game,
Both Hy-Vee and Cub opened this year.
Plus the farmers market returned June 8.
And the new Hardee’s will bring up the rear.

When the subject is food at Summerfest,
The list of choices can’t be beat.
Old favorites that trigger memories,
Ones that become a new favorite treat.

To the Oakdale Chamber of Commerce,
The medallion hunt is their Summerfest tale.
They provide much fun and a big cash prize,
And you get to learn more about Oakdale!

Last year, some seekers weren’t happy.
The clues took them round and round.
It’s always, almost, been found in a park,
But then again, sometimes, on city ground.
Explanation:
“Rear” = horse terminology.
“Trigger” – name of Roy Roger’s horse (tv show in the 50s)
“You” refers to shape of horseshoe.
“Round and Round” references a carrousel, of which horses are the most common animal on the ride
“City ground” = parkland

We lost a prince and our very own king,
Class was never difficult to find.
Nearby a sign will come into play,
But closer, it’s one of a kind.

Luck will guide you to the place.
Being cornered is good indeed.
The clues will unlock the mystery,
And to the medallion they will lead.

Searchers of the medallion
Know very well what’s at stake.
To find it is to search not below,
But above the nearby lake.

Being up is good and might help you some,
But how it looks is key.
Time is tight and going fast,
The clues will help you see.
Explanation:
“King” references former mayor Ted Bearth. The Summerfest parade is named after him and several years ago, he led the parade riding a horse and wearing a “King Ted” shirt.
“Class” refers to nearby Tartan High School. “Nearby sign” refers to renaming the ballfield at nearby Tanners Park after Bearth. “One of a kind” refers to the park being the only one in the city with horseshoe courts.
“Luck” refers to horseshoes. “You” refers to shape of horseshoe.
“Cornered” refers to the park being on a corner.
“Lead” = horse terminology
“Stake” = horseshoe terminology
"Nearby lake" = Refers to the park being north of, aka “above”, Tanners Lake
"Being up is good" = Refers to horseshoe hanging above the door as good luck, but debate as to whether it’s better for the horseshoe to face up or down
"Time is tight" = Refers to the sanding running through an hourglass; horseshoe court is sand base

Roads in the area will be closed,
For the parade tonight at six.
It may look like some type of a trap,
But that’s just not in the mix.

Just go to where it’s stable,
You can easily venture in.
Remember it’s not at Walton,
So just take a little spin.

After the parade is over,
You’ll see a famous singer.
Ok, it’s not the real Elvis,
But a most excellent dead ringer!
Explanation:
“Trap” refers to the horseshoe court sand being similar to a sand trap in golf.
“Stable” = horse terminology.
“You” refers to shape of horseshoe.
“Spin” is another reference to a carousel.
“Ringer” = horseshoe terminology.

Rockin’ Hollywoods are tonight,
And Saturday is the 5/10k.
If you are on route to the medallion,
You are going the wrong way.

Tomorrow night Rhino performs,
And fireworks will fill the sky.
Clink, clank, bang, and boom!
Then we bid Summerfest good-bye.

If you are looking south of 10th Street,
You might soon have money in the bank.
Get there first and find it fast,
Close only counts in grenades and blank!
Explanation:
The 5/10k is held at the Discovery Center at the north end of town. If you are in the north end of town and looking for the medallion, you would need to head south.
“Clink, clank” refers to the noise of a horseshoe hitting the stake.
A well-known saying “Close only counts in grenades and horseshoes.”

Horseshoe Park is where to be,
It could be your new lucky place.
From your vehicle head north,
Walk then pick up the pace.

The bright color, it beckons.
But the color warns you too.
No need to try to get inside,
But bending down might do.

Look underneath and to the back,
Slide it out and peer inside.
See the star smiling up at you,
Under the medallion will hide.
Explanation:
"new lucky place" = Another reference to luck
"The bright color" = Very yellow “Jobox”, medallion wedged underneath so you would need to get low enough to see underneath the JoBox
Smiling star is Hardee’s logo, which was setting on top of the medallion
