Find the Medallion somewhere in St Peter, and you will win $1,000 in St. Peter Chamber Bucks!

There are a few simple rules to remember when searching for the St. Peter Winter Medallion:

     -  The Medallion is located within the St. Peter city limits and on public property.

     -   Do NOT dig in the soil.

     -   Please respect other people’s property and DO NOT search for the Medallion on
         private property.
 
     -   Please DO NOT climb over any fences when looking for the Medallion.  The Medallion is
          NOT located in a restricted area.

         

Clues will be listed on the following websites:

 

If you find the Medallion, you can turn it in at the St. Peter Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 101 S. Front Street in St. Peter.  If you find the Medallion outside of the normal Chamber of Commerce business hours, please call Ed at 507-766-4560 so, as a courtesy to all Medallion hunters, we can report via the Chamber Facebook Page that it has been found. An e-mail also will go immediately to the St. Peter Herald and Mankato Free Press.

The 15th winter medallion hunt has begun on public land
Finding the prize could help your dreams come to fruition
Because possession of the medallion will give you a cool grand
Explanation:
We’re back once again for our annual winter tradition – This meant back in the same spot again, but was very subtle

The 15th winter medallion hunt has begun on public land – Wanted to hint at public land, because yes, it was hidden in parkland on the map but perhaps more to the side of public land than a park with park equipment and playing fields

Finding the prize could help your dreams come to fruition

Because possession of the medallion will give you a cool grand

The repeat was deemed necessary to keep the hunters off track
This year it would be wise to take a walk with a watchful eye
If you follow the right path the medallion will be very nearby
Explanation:
Jefferson has been the hiding spot for two years back to back – Wanted to mention Jefferson just for fun. It really did mean Jefferson Park. So early. In the second clue

The repeat was deemed necessary to keep the hunters off track – The path is like a track

This year it would be wise to take a walk with a watchful eye – Follow the right path; watchful eye didn’t mean anything

If you follow the right path the medallion will be very nearby – Path appears several times and means the path around the basin

Be careful which portion you let govern your search – The key word was govern. Jefferson was governor of Virginia, the second governor of Virginia in fact. Thought people might think Minnesota governors, especially McGill. A diversionary thing

It’s been about 45 hours since the big game has been done
Your excitement or sadness depends on if your team won
Who would expect a bowl game with no touchdowns thrown
Now forget about the game and go find a big bowl of your own
The medallion location is somewhere in the clues I do pledge
Stay focused on your goal if you want to keep your edge
Explanation:
It’s been about 45 hours since the big game has been done – Forty-five hours brings it to 6 p.m. on Tuesday. By the way, 45 years ago, there were no touchdowns thrown in the Super Bowl. This, the number 45, indicated the speed limit sign along Nicollet Avenue.

Your excitement or sadness depends on if your team won --

Who would expect a bowl game with no touchdowns thrown – Rhyming only

Now forget about the game and go find a big bowl of your own – Basin is like a big bowl

Which could make it tricky to find in the snow or the grass
If it wasn’t so cloudy the stars could help light your way
As you follow the path to where the treasure does lay
The closer you get you’ll need to step away from the trail
But don’t stray too far as it may cause your search to fail
Explanation:
The medallion might be plastic but it looks just like glass – Looks like glass and rhymes nicely

Which could make it tricky to find in the snow or the grass – Hid it in the grass when there wasn’t any snow

If it wasn’t so cloudy the stars could help light your way – Goes to Joseph Nicollet the geographer, astronomer and mathematician

As you follow the path to where the treasure does lay

It’s really not that tough as I’m sure you will soon clearly see – Key didn’t mean anything, not really

You may want to grab a St. Peter map and research the town – Joseph Nicollet mapped this area; he was a cartographer

Failure to do this will leave you with nothing else to blame

Cluses is the key to the hunt that will help you stake your claim – Some hunters thought it was a typo. If you google the Joseph Nicollet page, you see he was born in Cluses, a commune in France. Nicollet sounds French. Nicollet Avenue runs along Jefferson Park.

Just look for the right stake near the edge of the bowl—It was one of the stakes at the edge of the bowl. Literally. Purposely hid it near the stake closest to the 45 mph speed limit sign

Just a few paces north is where the medallion can be found – Literally, just a few paces north of the stake
