Clues
Published on Wednesday, January 9, 2013
There was a folk hero named Jesse
Whose wild life of crime was excess-y
He and his brother
Escaped to take cover
When a botched job in Northfield got messy

They camped near Waseca a spell
At least that’s what rumor would tell
The Youngers --arrested
The James boys—detested
They risked spending time in a cell

Of course, they were toting some loot
As the James pair eluded pursuit
The sought for MEDALLION
Slid from the spurred stallion
As Jesse dug deep with his boot

In the next weeks we’ll follow their trail
As the brothers avoided sure jail
In limerick style
We’ll cover their miles
And we’ll locate the coin without fail

The outlaws had raced through Elysian
On the tracks going south they were freezin’
They parked their steeds late
In a shelter of eight
Then hid among pines for good reason

With the Younger brothers they’d parted
To follow terrain yet uncharted
They had to be wise
Or meet their demise
As through Waseca they darted

To lead their pursuers off course
They circled the county by horse
Biggest manhunt in history
So it’s really no mystery
The James gang ramped up no remorse

Did they weave their way south through a maze
Of pastures where horses could graze?
With a price on their heads
Did they roll north instead,
Netting excitement, and crazed?

Remember-- It fell from his pack
Where he gave his horse chase with a whack
The medallion, we mean—
Has it ever been seen?
Didn’t Jesse James even look back?

Lucky for you, he kept riding
And so the medallion’s still hiding
It serves him right
He had to take flight
Because he was not law abiding

Ducking through tall oaks and pines
On watch for all perils and signs
The pair gazed beyond
And spotted a pond
But they longed for a hideaway blind

They bragged about what they had done
They were hunted by most everyone
With their eyes on the ball
They eluded them all
For the thrill of a life on the run

They avoided the fields too exposed
Their water hole must be enclosed
Sought out the tall brush
Where the grasses were lush
Where was this home base that they chose?

Though the pond may have surely been dry
A hydration source was nearby
A welcome relief
For a scoundrel and thief
But the levels may not have been high

The medallion’s still missing, it’s true
But we’ve given you plenty of clues
So spin round and round
And close to the ground
You just might discover a slough

For all of you number fanatics
Who prefer working with mathematics
Stand west just so
At two four oh oh
Face the stop sign with compass static

To the north, three fifty six
East, ninety eight degrees fix
Where they intersect
Try to collect
Way down deep in the sticks

We hope that you’re finding success
Following Frank and Jess
From place to place
On a wild goose chase
And the coin you’ll soon possess!
