We exercised our freedom and a medallion we did hide
Now exercise your precious freedom: get out and crusade!
Explanation:
This clue invited people to participate in the hunt and also started a theme of using the word “precious.” This was done to jokingly make light of all of the signs at Rotary Farm claiming that all wildlife is “precious.”

Explanation:
The first half of the clue indicated that the medallion was hidden in the city of White Bear Lake. The coin was tucked inside of a plastic Dr. (“degree holding”) Pepper (“with salt is a pair”) bottle.

Explanation:
The relatively new Rotary Farm Nature Preserve is a place of “placidity and tranquility” and also, because of its newness, “low visibility.”

It may seem surreal but you’ll spot many a wheel
That simply weren’t made for rotation.
Weeds that are smart also seem a tad unreal
Since when did plants receive a precious education?
Explanation:
The Rotary Nature Preserve was made possible by the Rotary Club whose symbol is a wheel. Their logo can be found in many places around the park. Also, a plant species called “smartweed” exists within the wetland where the medallion was discarded. A sign very near the medallion’s location near the spot listed it as one of park’s residents.

Precious structures abound on a nearby park ground
Abe Lincoln couldn’t have constructed them any better.
You’ll have to go very slow when driving around
Or the neighbors will run after you all a-fetter.
Explanation:
The park pavilion and restroom in Rotary Park are made out of stone and wood, resembling cabins that Abraham Lincoln may have constructed back in his time. To the south of the park is Birch Lake Boulevard, which has a speed limit of 20MPH and is strictly enforced by those that live around it.

Then you’ll have to use some good ole walking power.
Try to spot a local who is quite a renowned fishing star
And that does inhabit the summit of a nearby tower.
Explanation:
This clue referred to the fact that one would have to take a walk into the preserve in order to find the medallion. Also, Rotary Farm is home to an osprey, a bird that is a supreme fisher and lives at the top of Osprey Tower.

Seek out ground that is anything but dry.
Also ponder some chips that you really wouldn’t want to eat
But keep your distance if you hope to tap into our precious money supply.
Explanation:
“Seek out ground that is anything by dry” pointed to the wetland where the medallion was deposited. The Dr. Pepper bottle containing the medallion was hidden just a short distance from a trail covered with wood chips (“chips that you really wouldn’t want to eat”).

Using their names is this clue’s most foremost feature.
So then think of a name that honors a precious local lake
Commemorating a tree and not a swimming creature.
Explanation:
Two White Bear Lake schools share their names with a lake: Birch and Otter. “Not a swimming creature” left the hunter Birch. Birch Lake was due south of the hiding spot.
