Hunt rules

Clues leading to the hidden 2015 Woodbury Days medallion will be revealed daily from Aug. 19-21. If the medallion isn’t found today (Friday, Aug. 21), more clues will resume Monday through Friday, Aug. 24-28, or until the treasure is found. Visit Anchor Bank, 1920 Donegal Drive in Woodbury, to read the clue by 9 a.m. each day.

Call the Woodbury Bulletin’s hotline for the medallion hunt at (651) 319-4488, where hunters may listen to a voice recording of the most current clue after 11 a.m. daily, and clues will also be posted on woodburybulletin.com at 11 a.m. each day.

How to win

The prize is $500, courtesy of Anchor Bank of Woodbury. The winner is guaranteed the first half of the prize. The second half of the prize is secured when the medallion is returned by a Woodbury Days button holder and the winner calls (651) 702-0973 to alert the Woodbury Bulletin, which typically writes a story about the medallion finder.

The Woodbury Bulletin and Anchor Bank will together present the prize. Any winner who doesn’t have the Button of Savings will receive only $250 of the prize, courtesy of Anchor Bank.

Return the medallion to the bank, during weekday business hours (8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays) to claim the prize.

Today’s the day! It’s beginning! A brand new medallion hunt
Hope springs eternal! Roses and cupcakes for all
Think hard until the treasure’s been found
Should clues get too hard, worst case, you can always punt

Now before you start looking high and low
If you want to find the puck made of stone
Listen here veterans and newbies
There a few rules you’ve got to know

First and foremost, it’s hidden in the most public of places
So no searching in private or shared yards or non-city parks
No door knocking is necessary, all are welcome at the rock’s home
But remember your best manners, all politeness, good graces

Oh, you should get familiar with a few tips and tricks
Throw out your old assumptions, new clue writer this year
Daily kickoff occurs at Anchor Bank at 9 a.m.
Don’t go digging or climbing, putting or diving; do no damage, just poke with sticks.

Good luck and get going, don’t wait at the station
There are old-timers, know-it-alls and smarties
Who've started pacing the grounds and pawing around
Just hope you can find it ‘fore Woodbury Days’ celebration

Anyone can find this thing — any Tom, Dick, or Frank
Get a team together or go it alone
Enjoy our green, green parks

Explanation:
A warning to start immediately, the first clue contains substance. The medallion is hidden in a public park near a fire station. Veterans are mentioned, pointing to the prize’s close proximity to a veterans memorial.

Out of water

But did have a lark

This hunt should be hard, not so easy
‘Less you tiptoe 140 miles in Woodbury
After which surely you’ll receive
That blessed $500 mostly for free
Explanation:
The medallion search area is defined as within Woodbury’s boundaries. If you’ve walked all 140-plus miles of trails in the city, you’ve seen the hiding spot. The particular footpath leads through a natural area, but it’s a minute walk to an area of high vehicle traffic volumes.

Explanation:
The hiding place is in the vicinity of a natural area, the home of a turtle, and a memorial to Gordon Bailey, who donated flowers by the Woodbury Veterans Memorial.

Afton Road borders one side of the park where the medallion is hidden. The neighboring town after which the road is named, is known for its Old Village with small-town charm — and shopping.

This clue points directly to Woodbury Veterans Memorial Park, and it tells aobut the three bags — Kowalski’s, Target and Walgreen’s — that contain the medallion. Again, it’s by the sixth pole of the boardwalk.
