Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #5
Okay. So. I am losing it that the word "the" is missing—diamond in "the" rough. If only I was good at anagrams. I am not. However, I am stuck on Como and now I am down a rabbit hole with Perry Como songs or ones covered by Perry and Neil Diamond or Perry Como singing "Song Sung Blue" on the Perry Como Winter Special. Seriously... send help! LOL :)
Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #5
Look for a hill . . . Cathedral Hill? James J Hill house? Any parks near hear that fit with other clues. Big thrill could just refer to finding the medallion, not necessarily a sledding hill. Just noodling . . .
Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #5
I kind of read this as being about a snow bank. Sometimes they attach sticks to things like a fire hydrant so that you can find them when they get buried in snow. Maybe there is a snow bank that also has some of those orange cones by it. And then you would have to go dig for your "diamond". Though diamond might also be another baseball/softball reference.

Wow, sounds like they think there is enough to get you in the area so far and when there, this looks park specific now, as in where to go when at the park or specifics about said park, by the sticks.... bushes? and cone.... , pines? (A place where sticks and pine cones have dropped- scrounge through that stuff) Hill... sliding hill for thrill? How many parks have hills ughhh. Pines? and Bushes? I'm like really? Cmon....lol almost too vague, is there a hidden something here? Right Stuff, space movie? Diamond - ballfield? I guess this to me is not pointing to a park, but where in the park and or what features said park has in it and vague at best. But if you're on the park early, it might get you close by.

PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #5
Here is the new clue
Clue #5
Have you the right stuff to seek diamond in rough?
Then scrounge through stick and cone
If you want a big thrill look for a hill
To spy a treasure to own
And the previous clues:
Clue #4
If treasure's your mark, take a waltz in the park
Be ready to meet your match
Strap on your glove, look up above
For an object ripe for the catch
Clue #3
A bomb cyclone hit our wintry zone On the chin, buckling our knees Get up at your leisure to seek our fine treasure Find fortune and live life of ease
Clue #2
Descend from your perch, set out to search
East Side, west side, all around the town
Glory will reign when you find the chain
To go with your cap and gown
Clue #1
The viral pandemic is now endemic And the battle’s on for Ukraine Take a break from the news to follow your muse
And tackle these rhymes with your brain

Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
I was also thinking Falconry, when someone else mentioned the strapping on the glove for birding. Then I saw this noodle and went HMMMM
Space needle as the perch? Fair Rides, Como Town close ... Falcon Heights ...hmmmm
.......................................................................
Falcon Heights Community Park, very small, isn't far from the MN Raptor Center, on UM campus, near Fairgrounds.

Re: Clue 1 is online now at TwinCities.com
This might help: The word Ukraine has a meaning. It means "borderland" or "outskirts".
Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
If we go with the bird idea, then ripe for the catch means ripe as in dead rodent used to feed the bird. That's wicked
Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
I'm thinking the line strap on a glove speaks more towards baseball or for letting large birds land on you. It doesn't say gloves plural like needed for boxing or winter gloves for being outside. That's my lunchtime noodling contribution.

Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #2
"Find the chain": Could it be the Grand Round? It was called, " The Grand Round was seen as unbroken chain of “parked” ways that connected these larger park spaces that encircled the city". https://www.stpaul.gov/departments/parks-and-recreation/design-construction/current-projects/saint-paul-grand-round
Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
Strap on a glove and look up above for ripe to catch. Blah blah.
First thought is for eagles/hawks any of those type of birds of prey. To strap on the big leather glove and your looking up for them to come land...flying eagle ride at como or maybe means bald eagle(park?)
Any parks with a raptor center near by?

Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
Phalen Park has a chain of lakes (find the chain) and one of them is Round Lake . . there are 'rounds' in boxing . . maybe a stretch, but just a thought. Down the road there is Gustavus Adolphus church (glory) and Johnson High School (cap and gown). Going north from there is an archery range ("mark", also "match" and even "glove" I suppose). There is a statue titled "Meditation" . . (follow your muse).

Dutch Oven
Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
What do you think of Cherokee park? There was a cyclone that took out the high bridge in 1904.
No cap and gown in sight though for that area.I mean a high school or college

Re: PP Medallion Hunt - Clue #4
Waltz in the park speaks Como to me and the Pavilion, or could be another park that participates in the Music in the Park series.
Definitely seems to be another boxing reference. I thought of the boxing club near Phalen also, but it is kind of a ways from the park. A search on Minnesota famous boxers will bring up Tommy Gibbons and the Flanagan brothers, but I can't seem to make them fit to any park.
