Ah yes, Frost could definitely be related to the getting hotter line. Thinking some more on that, if you don't count Spoon as a separate lake, prior to Frost there is a creek that would have water from Kohlman, Gervais, and Keller in it. Maybe that creek lines up with where the treasure is hidden (on the south side of Phalen)?

If your in town, to me already says your in St Paul. So swing on down, really does lead me to CHS field next to Bruce Vento and to a park lit up some nights is the baseball night games. Now the "before it gets hotter" part and the misspelling of "sites" lining up water and leading you to sites as in a multi area? Not sure, that still needs to be noodled, I'm still BV for now

https://www.rwmwd.org/three-creeks-in-one-a-meandering-mirror-of-the-past/ Just read this article now and it is indeed interesting. The problem I have with it, especially as it is today, is that the water in Phalen Creek goes through a lot more than just three bodies of water. There's Kohlman, Gervais, Spoon, Keller, Round, and Phalen, and you can trace it back further I believe though it's hard to tell for certain as it goes underground in spots now (though it does trail northwards on the old map in the article). On the other hand, ever since the PP referred to west as being "due north" in the last Cherokee hunt, you can't always assume absolute accuracy. So maybe they are just looking at the three bodies of water in the regional park specifically. And then I guess it could mean not to line them up, but rather to look at the line produced by the water of three bodies which might explain the grammar. Of course that line is no longer visible and I'm still not sure what getting hotter has to do with it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, David.  I just got home after walking BVNS with my kids for an hour. Several people are pretty sold on it. A couple theories that aren't here.
BVNS would be lit up some nights when CHS Field shoots fireworks. Swing on down would be a baseball reference.
What if GRU is referencing the Gruidae family of birds? Crane's tend to nest in wetland areas which BVNS certainly offers and the Sanctuary would protect them.
I scouted Phalen on the way down, and didn't see anyone that resembled a medallion hunter, but I know that doesn't mean it isn't there. To support Phalen, what if you need to use Frost Ave on the north side of the lake...before it gets hotter and melts?

You just have to post to the message board what your guess is. You get 10 votes per day which can be divided between parks however you wish (or all go on one park). If you don't make a new guess each day, your previous guess just carries over. Earlier votes are worth more than later votes and a tie goes to whoever made the earliest pick of that park.

The Allison Wonderland - Sat, 01/25/2020 - 11:56

Here is my take.... not real sure. I have walked Phalen, mounds, and Crosby. My top is Phalen. How do I vote?

Clue #7

If you’re in town, swing on down

To a park lit up some nights

Before it gets hotter, line three bodies water

And you’ll have it in your sites

Site may also be used as a verb which means “to fix or build something in a particular place.” On the other hand, the term sight is often used as a noun referring to “the faculty or power of seeing” or “a thing that one sees or that can be seen.”

Park lit up (Phalen but only during events, it does say some night?????,

mounds was lit up for sure)

Line there bodies (Phalen - round, Phalen, and Gervais; Crosby Farm -Crosby, Mississippi, and Minnesota River. Are there any other parks with 2 bodies??

Clue #6

Once at the summit, it did quite plummet

Before it got to the bluff

Starting and stopping, winding and hopping

It will eventually lead to the stuff

Summit brewing down Shepard road.... down the bluff to Hidden or Crosby ) or simply the bluff in relation to so many parks. Not really feeling the plane crash deal but who knows.

Starting and Stopping hmmm reference to hiking paths winding and hopping tells me your gonna walk and hop and wind and start and stop. Which led me to Hidden and Crosby.

Clue #5

We will protect each clue from the GRU

Nyet hackers! Have you no shame?

They may fix our elections, but we'll spark insurrection,

If they try to interfere with our game

GRU - we will protect from the GRU ie protect from St. Paul ? GRU (Sao Paulo ) hmmm but here it say protect from St. Paul if that is what we say it is??? Leds back to Phalen ......If St. Paul tried to interfere with our game.

Insurrection if st paul interferes?????a violent uprising against an authority or government.

Clue #4

One patterned neat and trim, one salvaged life and limb

Did the two cutters who lived down the way.

Herringbones or sawbones?

You decide which will play.

2 cutters Is I believe Gillette (Phalen) and Johnson ( Taylor) seems odd to use Johnson for 2 reference which looking back is not commonly done. Either way these 2 cutters seem to make us choose .......... which one or more specifically which side of the park to choose? Hmmmm

I say a choose between Phalen and Mounds.....

herringbones (1 : a pattern made up of rows of parallel lines which in any two adjacent rows slope in opposite directions. vs sawbones (a doctor or surgeon.) which park to choose or which side of the park (doubtful)

Clue #3

This hunt’s guarantor settles that forevermore

Noodlers treasure noggins; keep that in mind.

So doff your warm cap, study dog-eared map

And genuflect in the presence of the find.

Clue 3 Genuflect - bend on a knee to see BUT OUT OF RESPECT and if indeed they are talking about impeach (Clue 2) they are going left .......they are talking about kneeling AND WHILE picking up the Macgruffin we would see something * a flag * the capitol * or simply could be talking about the medallion however I believe something we respect is seen.

Kneel at the capitol ? Kneel at a church near Phalen?

I do not think it is “the map book” as the map book is now into several different maps. i think simply it is a Dog eared map ie a well used map.

Clue #2

Though the times be quite peachy, we do so beseech ye,

To venture out of doors for a romp

As you traipse through the snow, your medallions aglow,

Careful of what flora you stomp

reference to Johnson (Phalen & Mounds) Romp ( any place with a playground) Trapsie - to walk or go aimlessly or idly or without finding or reaching one's goal: We traipsed all over town looking for a copy of the book.

Careful of the flora (wild flora at Phalen, mounds, Crosby park , and virtually any other place)

Clue #1

There’s just enough snow and temperatures low

To rouse us from our snoozing

And hide the MacGuffin, no we ain’t bluffin,

In a park of our very own choosing.

The Vikings are done, the Twins yet begun

What excuse do you have to dawdle?

Gather your kin, prepare for the win

And be sure to bring a hot bottle.

* The Macguffin - the thing that drives the plot. Possibly a reference to St PAUL and the Excel and the wild.

Park Thoughts

The Allison Wonderland - Sat, 01/25/2020 - 10:29

Looking at the park pick pool as well as what people are posting on Facebook, it seems clear that here on Clue 7 people have not settled on a park yet. There seem to be several contenders that people feel strongly about. I think at this point it likely is one of those and that we won't be thrown to a brand new park. But where to go dig today since it is the weekend and I'm sure people want to go somewhere.

First off, let's talk accessibility. The city of St. Paul does not know where the medallion is. They are going about their business like the treasure hunt doesn't even exist until something happens that they can't ignore. For example, I drove through Phalen last night. It's very accessible. There are a couple of lots that are closed off simply because they aren't plowed. I'm sure the city saw no point in plowing them if no one was going to use them (nor did they want someone to get stuck in an unplowed lot). But if large crowds did start showing up, they probably would plow it at some point. The same is true at Hidden Falls. If the steep road down there is icy, they will close the gate, but that doesn't mean the treasure isn't there. There were even reports of people chasing people out of the parks last night, but that always happens, even in the right park. Once the crowds come, they will leave us alone.

So onto the parks. My favorite is still Phalen.

  • In clue 1 MacGuffin reminds me of the green doughnut from 2004 which was the thing everyone was looking for in the Archie comic that gave them the idea to do that. Gathering your kin to prepare for a win while holding a hot bottle could refer to the hockey rink.
  • In clue 2 the times being peachy could refer to impeachment which would then lead you to Andrew Johnson who was the first President to be impeached and Johnson Parkway. The floral reference could refer to all of the streets with floral names at the south end of the park.
  • Clue 3 I think is telling us it is hidden in a Love Your Melon hat, or a piece of one. I believe genuflect is telling us it is on the ground and we may have to get on our knees to find it. My guess about the dog-eared map was that it was in a park that we would have old used maps of, either because it was there before or because it is in old copies of The Treasure Hunter's Guide.
  • Clue 4 seems to clearly point to Phalen for me. It refers to two cutters, one who seems to be a doctor and one who seems to be a tailor. Dr. Gillette was an orthopedic surgeon while Andrew Johnson was a tailor before he went into politics. And you have the Old Gillette hospital at the south end of Phalen and of course Johnson Parkway at the south end of the lake. Though they are spread pretty far east and west so you'll have to pick a side.
  • GRU as has been mentioned is the airport code for Sao Paulo which translates to St. Paul, so I think this is telling us to look in St. Paul. I wonder if the "spark insurrection" might be a reference to Wheelock Parkway as a wheellock is a part of an old-style gun used to create a spark (and guns are used in insurrections). There's something else in this clue but it wasn't my idea nor posted publicly anywhere.
  • I heard an explanation for Clue 6 that sounds exactly right but it also wasn't posted publicly. But it does "eventually" get you to Phalen. Alternately, but somewhat less satisfying is Phalen Creek. Assuming it flows downhill it's summit would be Phalen Lake and then it "plummets" while heading towards the bluff. It does wind and it starts and stops as it hops above and below ground. It connects to Phalen, but not in the direction the clue suggests.
  • I'm taking Clue 7 to mean more directly it is a St. Paul park, and on the southern end of it. Phalen is lit up on nights when there is outdoor hockey or it could refer to the Christmas lights display it's been hosting recently. The three bodies (of) water to line (up)? Maybe it's not a body of water but rather a line of water, which is to say a street named after water. In the case of Phalen we do have Phalen (Lake) Blvd., Atlantic (Ocean) St., and English (Channel) St. all converging around the south end of the lake. Seems like a bit of a stretch to me, but perhaps too much to be coincidence?

So that is Phalen. I'm going to cover some other parks, but not in as much detail because I haven't studied them as much.

Mounds - A lot of what applies to Phalen also applies to Mounds. Johnson Parkway runs into Mounds as does Phalen Creek. Atlantic and English Streets run into the east end of the park while Pacific runs into the west end.You would certainly want to be careful of what flora you stomp. It's a city park and even near downtown if that's what the words "down" and "town" were trying to imply in the last clue. Johnson could still be your tailor though I'm not sure who the surgeon would be, but there's probably one somewhere nearby. GRU could be an airport clue as you can see the downtown airport from Mounds and they have the beacon for it in the park. A lot of people seem to think Clue 6 is referring to an airplane crash that happen in or near the park (I forgot which).
Bruce Vento Nature Sanctuary - there was a significant shift here after Clue 6. A lot of what applies to Mounds applies here as well. I suspect it was the fact that Phalen Creek lets out here that excited people, but I don't believe this park is lit up on *any* night.
Highland is still currently number three in the park pick pool (Mounds is #1 and Bruce Vento is #2) I haven't actually looked at it to see how it fits the clues, but if Rose gave up on it, then I'm not sure how it could be there. On the other hand last year's pool winner, Christina, is all in on it, so maybe I'm missing something.
I've heard some people sold on Swede Hollow. It also shares a few things with Phalen and/or Mounds, but doesn't strike me as a strong contender.
So I think that covers all the parks that have a strong interest in them that I know of. Feel free to elaborate on any of them if you wish. Otherwise it should be a good day to be out there hunting so good luck.

They definitely left out the words "up" and "of" which is odd. And they definitely spelled "sights" wrong which is also odd. Perhaps an anagram? It is found in a list of sites?

Shouldn't they have said "line (up) three bodies (of) water,
and you'll have it in your sights (not sites)"?
Anyway,. here's an interesting link on 3 bodies of water: https://www.rwmwd.org/three-creeks-in-one-a-meandering-mirror-of-the-past/
